Hours of Duty: Monday – Friday, 8:00 AM – 5:00 PM, with some weekends, nights, holidays and depending on the College’s emergency operations

QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED: Bachelor’s degree in Graphic Design, Web Design, Interactive Design, or Fine Arts. Front-end web development experience. Ability to work cooperatively in a team, as well as independently, with a positive attitude and friendly demeanor. Ability to communicate well with non-technical College staff. Ability to prioritize tasks and meet deadlines in a fast-paced work environment. Ability to learn new software, technology, and methods as necessary. Ability to work patiently with clients that require additional assistance. Excited by and actively explores emerging technologies. Not afraid to ask for help and learn from mistakes. Front-end web development experience utilizing HTML, CSS and JavaScript. Image optimization and strong experience using graphics software (Ex. Photoshop/Fireworks). Working knowledge of JavaScript libraries, like jQuery. Experience translating flat design compositions into fully functional templates. Extremely detail oriented. Strong knowledge of design principles, typography and standard user interface pattern. Working knowledge of server-side programming languages (Ex. PHP, ASP, .NET). Working knowledge of web-based database administration and SQL queries. Working knowledge of CMS platforms (Ex. Word Press, Drupal, Expression Engine). Experience building and maintaining large sites. Ability to execute ideas from concept to launch. Experience developing and testing cross-browser and cross-platform solutions, while maintaining a consistent user experience. An online portfolio demonstrating ability to produce well-organized, standards-compliant code. Strong writing skills and attention to detail. Candidates for this position must have a strong skill set in the latest web technologies.
QUALIFICATIONS PREFERRED: Front-end web development experience utilizing HTML5 and CSS3. Knowledge of responsive web design and grid systems. Knowledge of SEO and accessibility standards. Ability to anticipate and add usability enhancements as needed. Working knowledge of server environments and administration. Troubleshooting and installation of Windows Server 2008 r2/2012. Troubleshooting and installation of IIS. Troubleshooting and configuring Certificates. Experience working with non-profits or education-based clients. Experience working in an in-house environment or within a Public Relations and Marketing office.
DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES: Thomas Nelson Community College is looking for a talented front-end Web Developer who wants to work in a creative, energetic, and challenging higher education environment creating web sites that promote and celebrate the College’s many excellent programs. The Web Developer will report to the Web and Social Media Communications Manager. Perform day-to-day maintenance and management of web content and systems to ensure stability, quality and integrity in support of goals set by the Public Relations and Marketing office. Ensure a visually consistent site by adhering to standards, guidelines, and policies and promoting uniform fonts, formatting, icons, images and layout techniques. Establish and maintain cross-platform and cross-browser compatibility ensuring accessibility from a variety of environments and providing suitable access by individuals with disabilities. Assist the Web and Social Media Communications Manager in managing the design, development, maintenance, and overall architecture for web sites and ongoing maintenance. Responsible for creating and implementing web marketing needs such as web forms and applications, online fundraising and registrations, integrating social media, and providing any necessary training and support to internal clients. Develop innovative web-based projects for outreach, engagement, and recruitment and communication effectiveness. The Web Developer is a member of the Joint Information Communication team and is essential personnel required to report to work during a crisis or emergency situation at the College.

Senior Public Relations Specialist
The Senior Public Relations Specialist in the Hampton University Office of University Relations is responsible for media relations, newsletters, e-mail, web communications, and strategic marketing for designated programs within the University, under the direction of the Director of University Relations. This position provides leadership and support for the planning, development and coordination of both internal and external communications and news projects. Writes, edits and reviews news materials and public relations materials. The position also coordinates the development, implementation and completion of special projects related to internal and/or external communications initiatives.
Qualifications: This position requires a bachelor’s degree in a related field (Public Relations, Journalism or Marketing) and three to five years work experience. The Senior Public Relations Specialist should have knowledge of media markets, public relations tactics, general marketing communications practices, public relations research, and all communications channels. The Senior Public Relations Specialist should be an excellent writer/editor and have an understanding of the tools and resources available to the public relations and communications professional.
